Whitney Adana Kite

Whitney Kite is a PhD Candidate studying medieval architecture and landscape. Her dissertation explores the architecture of medieval Armenia diachronically through the lens of phenomenology and ecocriticism, including the afterlives of ruined monuments in the modern period. For the 2024-25 academic year, she will be a residential fellow at the Getty Center. Previous, she held fellowships in Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks and as a Lily Residential Scholar at the Library of Congress. She holds an MA in Art History from Tufts University and a BA in Biological Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. Her publications include essays in Art and Violence in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2020) and The Armenian Review (Summer 2023). Her work has been supported by the Medieval Academy of America, the National Association for Armenian Studies and Research, the Armenian General Benevolent Union, the Claudia Rattazzi Papka Fund, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, among others.
