Applying to Art History Seminars

Seminars are limited-enrollment classes which offer students the opportunity to explore a topic in-depth with the instruction of a faculty member who is an expert in that field. Seminars typically require intensive reading and discussion, culminating in an extended research paper and oral presentation.

Unless otherwise specified, all department seminars require an application. The application provides an opportunity for students to describe their prior coursework in art history (and in any other relevant topics) and why they are interested in taking the seminar. Students must complete and upload the following application form when joining the seminar's Vergil wait-list during registration periods. Admission is at the instructor's discretion.

Seminars listed with a UN3000–UN3999 course code are undergraduate-only, while seminars listed with a GU4500–GU4999 course code admit both undergraduate and graduate students. Any additional seminars taken beyond the required amount for a student’s program of study may be applied to an eligible historical, geographic, or elective distribution requirement.
