Resources for MA Students
Department and University Resources
MA students not only have access to the Department's renowned faculty and University libraries, but also to the multitude of other resources available at Columbia University, including:
- The Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library
- The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery
- The Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture, and
- The Media Center for Art History
Access to New York City institutions extends beyond campus with free admission to several museums including the Guggenheim Museum, Asia Society, Africa Center, Neue Galerie, Cloisters, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Museum of Modern Art. For a complete list please visit the Arts Initiative at Columbia University website.
Internships
Columbia faculty, students, and alumni maintain longstanding collaborations with art institutions both in the United States and abroad. Each year MA students are encouraged to apply for internships that will broaden their intellectual work in the classroom through further exposure to a range of experiences, including curatorship, museum education and provenance research. Recent MA students have collaborated on exhibition projects for The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick Collection, The Museum of Modern Art, the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation, and the Performa Biennial.
