Ashish studies South Asian art at Columbia. His research interests include mediaeval Nepali erotic sculptures, the history of collecting and exhibition of South Asian objects, responses to visual imagery, and issues in cultural heritage and looted antiquities. He has a BA from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, with degrees in Philosophy, History of Maths and Science, Comparative Literature and Classics; and before Columbia, he was a journalist and critic for Nepali Times.
