John Beeson
John Beeson is a PhD candidate in art history at Columbia University. He has two main areas of research: global modernisms (1870-1970) and global conceptualism (1970-present). His work focuses on art’s relationship to anti-colonial struggles, culture wars, and neoliberal reforms in Argentina, Senegal, Indonesia, the UK, and the US. His scholarship has been supported by fellowships and grants from the Getty Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art, the Alliance Program, the Stillman-Lack Foundation, and the Turza Family Endowment Fund.
Beeson is a frequent contributor to publications such as Art Journal, Artforum, Frieze, and May, and he has served as an editor for Skulptur Projekte Münster, Manifesta, Spike, and Texte zur Kunst. He has also written catalogue essays for institutions including Kunsthalle Bern, Kunsthalle Zürich, Kunstverein München, Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, The Power Station, Fondation Pernod Ricard, ifa, and the Astrup Fearnley Museet.
