Biography

Robin Middleton, born in South Africa, studied architecture at the University of Witwatersrand, Viollet-le-Duc and the rational gothic tradition at Cambridge University. He was technical editor of Architectural Design from 1964 to 1972, head of general studies at the Architectural Association, London, and librarian and lecturer in the Faculty of Architecture and Art History at Cambridge University from 1972 to 1987. He joined the Columbia faculty in 1987. The focus of his studies has been French and English architecture of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
