James Xue is a second-year MODA student with a research interest in contemporary Asian diaspora art and theory. James graduated magna cum laude from UC San Diego in December 2023 with departmental honors in Visual Arts: Art History, Theorem, and Criticism with highest distinction. He worked as an assistant curator at the Beijing Fine Art Academy from 2022 to 2025, contributing to domestic and international exhibitions in Beijing, Milan, Berlin, and San Francisco. Since May 2025, he has been a writer and researcher at Fu Qiumeng Fine Art, promoting the practice of ink art within the Chinese diaspora community in New York.
James is writing his MA Thesis on the sense of home among first-generation Asian American individuals and its connections with language, space, and memory.
