Alliyah Allen (she/hers) is a second-year MODA student in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University. Her research interests include contemporary art, socially engaged art practices, the African American and Africana Diaspora, and Queer and Feminist studies. She hopes to explore the process of cultural reproduction and social change through art and civic engagement, particularly as it evolves both in cultural institutions like museums and galleries, but also in the public sphere and underserved communities. Alliyah earned her Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Africana Studies at Haverford College in 2018 and currently works as an Associate Curator and Senior Program Coordinator for Express Newark, a center for socially engaged art and design at Rutgers University—Newark.
